History of Aberdeens
Aberdeen's Wedding Florist was started in 1958 by its present owner,
Jim Harney. At age 19, Jim invested in a small 600 sq. ft. store on Montrose Avenue
near Crawford Ave. in Chicago. Then, after 1 year, he expanded to a 1,200 sq. ft.
store and work area at 5802 W. Montrose Ave. (also in Chicago).
Everything was "comin up roses" for Aberdeens, which was
Chicago's only all-wedding florist. Jim expanded Aberdeens into Milwaukee, WI.
However, at the age of 24, Jim decided to concentrate his efforts in Chicagoland,
and sold Aberdeens in Milwaukee in order to open up a south-side location at
9107 S.
Ashland Ave. in Chicago. With the success of the south-side location, Jim built a
10,000 sq. ft. building at 3829 N. Harlem. Then, 2 years later, he built a shopping
center in Lombard, IL featuring Aberdeens florist as the anchor tenant. Since then,
Aberdeens has expanded into Schaumburg, IL and has locations in 5 additional bridal
salons.
Today, Jim is proud to have 26 dedicated employees who have been serving
brides at Aberdeens for 25-40 years. Even after so many years in business, Aberdeens continues
to strive to make every bride that walks through its doors, a satisfied customer on her
wedding day.
